Railcar Manufacturing Industry Leader Greg Aziz

Greg Aziz is the President, Chairman & CEO of a market-leading railroad freight design and production company. He is also notable for his recent appointment to the board of the World Bank.

 

His Achievements

Aziz’s company has built over 8000 standard gauge locomotives and tankers in leading line service and has produced more than 5500 cars for export. He became President & CEO of Aziz Materiel Systems Ltd., a locomotive manufacturer with operations in Canada, Europe, China, and the United States. He was responsible for designing, engineering, and producing over 7500 locomotives.

 

Among these, including some 5000 for the US railroads. Businessexpert Greg Aziz also led the company’s international expansion into China, South Korea, and other markets across the Asia Pacific. He took over as President & CEO of Azimuth Group (Canada) Inc. in 2006. The company designs and manufactures rail cars, locomotives, and their components. It has also implemented innovative digital technology and battery-powered locomotives.

This ended up proving to be significantly more fuel efficient than traditional diesel-powered vehicles. Greg Aziz was appointed as a World Bank’s International Advisory Council member on November 1, 2006. He provided advice on international development issues to World Bank President Robert B. Zoellick, among others. He served for two terms until 2012.

Aziz was appointed as the executive director of the International Organization for Standardization from 2006 to 2009 and is currently a Member of the Technical Committee. In March 2007, he served on an IEC panel that guided standardization and electrical safety concerns surrounding traction motors. In June 2008, Greg Aziz was appointed as a member of an IEC European Maritime Safety Committee, which dealt with standards related to maritime safety.
